Corporate learning needs to rethink its approach

With adults checking their smartphones on average once every 12 minutes, it’s clear that companies have an opportunity to harness the explosion in mobile device use. This can exponentially improve the impact and effectiveness of learning and development in the workplace.

Massively deployed and affordable information technology has drastically transformed education preferences and expectations for students and workers. Although 95% of organizations consider technology crucial for increasing productivity, employees still lose around one day per workweek on average searching for information to efficiently perform their tasks.

One of the main reasons is that our fundamental educational paradigms have remained unchanged for decades. In many ways, this hinders companies from exploiting the full potential of the tools now at their disposal. Today, without any doubt, companies must leverage the explosion in mobile device use.

Mobile learning can save organizations exponential amounts of time and money on training. By “connecting” with today’s mobile lifestyle and delivering content in m-learning format, learners can recognize it as personalized and relevant to them. Companies can help employees perform better and be more productive, bringing positive results in both productivity and organizational culture.

More advanced organizations also see this as a way to foster engagement and enhance their employer brand by extending mobile learning offerings to encompass personal development experiences for their employees, a feature highly valued by individuals when accepting a job position.

Employees should be segmented into different groups and assigned specific objectives so that they have a sense of achievement of KPIs or eLearning. Gamification does not motivate everyone
